Interpretation of Geotechnical Report
نویسنده
چکیده
Geotechnical engineering deals with the safe transmittal of loads due to various engineering applications to, and into, the soil or rock mass. The soil and rock mass formations are heterogeneous and generally are subjected to stresses (due to various engineering applications) which are additional to those presently existing in the earth mass from its self weight and geological history. Due to these earth mass properties, the amalgamation of experience, study of what others have done in somewhat similar situations and site specific geotechnical information are required to produce an economical, practical and safe substructure design. The correct interpretation of the results obtained from field exploration and laboratory test program is one of the most important crucial parts of geotechnical engineering. Through this paper, the Author shares his experience about problems faced in various projects while reviewing the geotechnical investigation reports for interpreting geotechnical parameters required for design of structures. Author has made some suggestions which could be useful to resolve issues under such circumstances. متن کاملDesign of a Geotechnical Information Architecture Using Web Services
We present an information architecture using Web services for exchanging and utilizing geotechnical information, which is of critical interest to a large number of municipal, state and federal agencies as well as private enterprises involved with civil infrastructures. For example, in the case of soil liquefaction hazard assessment, insurance companies rely on the availability of geotechnical d...
متن کاملSurvey and geotechnical slope monitoring considerations
Monitoring of the slopes of surface mines can prevent loss of life, equipment, production and possibly the loss of the mine. The effectiveness of such monitoring depends on the extent to which slopes give adequate advanced warning before failing, and on the ability of the monitoring system to detect such warning. There is considerable evidence (for example, Ding et al., 1998) to indicate that s...
متن کاملRethink of failure of underground construction- lessons learned from Taiwan
Underground construction is widely adopted in urban area but sometimes the construction might cause severely failure. In this paper, successful interpretation of instrument data is addressed and several examples are demonstrated since geotechnical monitoring is thought to be an effective tool to avoid failure. Further, the failure may also be caused by misinterpretation of responsibilities of p...
متن کاملRepeated Photogrammetric Measurements at Shaping Geotechnical Models of Multi-layer Landslides
Repeated photogrammetric measurements are a valuable source of ~conservedu information during final shaping of geotechnical models of complex multi-layer landslides. Photogrammetric measurements of a sequence of detailed unchanged points enable establishing the clear limit between the moved and stable parts of the terrain. The paper provides a number of practical and theoretical findings result...
